Thunderbird Area Schools

Desert resort luxury doesn't have to come at the cost of education in Thunderbird Country Club. Nearby cities, including Palm Springs, just six miles north, afford a wide variety of education opportunities, from elementary schools to colleges and universities. No matter what kind of school you or your family requires, this area is ready to accommodate.

Public education in the Thunderbird area is provided by the Palm Springs Unified School District, which includes three comprehensive high schools, four middle schools, 14 elementary schools, eight headstart/state preschools, and four childcare programs. The District also oversees a variety of tertiary institutions, including one continuation high school, one independent study program, and an extensive adult education program. The cities within the Palm Springs Unified School District are Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Thousand Palms, Desert Hot Springs, and Cathedral City.

Access to post-secondary education is also a top priority in Thunderbird area communities. Palm Desert is the headquarters of College of the Desert, which houses satellite campuses for California State University and the University of California. Students here can enroll in a wide variety of programs, from art, to health sciences, to business.

There are also a variety of private schools in the Thunderbird area, including Desert Christian (K-12), Desert Chapel (K-12), St. Theresa's (K-8), Marywood Palm Valley (K-12), and King's School (K-8). A new Catholic high school in the Coachella Valley, called St. Xavier's, is also being built by the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino.
